Tool #5: Seeing

It is important to spot details when looking at a big picture and I think that this applies to the design process as well. I think that photography is an excellent way to train the eye for catching details that make a difference. It taught me that anything can be interesting if I know how to change my perspective and have the patience to catch the details.

My favorite photographer Ara Güler said: “I do not take photographs for people to look and be impressed. I photograph what I see. Some see. Some don’t.” Ara Güler, also known as the eye of Istanbul, describes himself as a visual historian. That’s what intrigued me to start recording the visual history of what I see. I created a photography account called Latmus Photography and started going on street photography trips. Here are a few examples of what I spotted in Los Angeles in 2020:
